The FA Community Shield 2007

Jul 25, 2007

On Sunday 5 August 2007, The FA Community Shield will return to Wembley for the first time in 7 years. Back then the match, Chelsea was the winner over EPL champion MU, with a 2-0 victory.

This year's match, which kicks off at 9:55pm Malaysia time at the brand new Wembley Stadium, will be a repeat of 7 years ago as Premier League champions Manchester United take on Chelsea. So what will the score be?

I Was Twisted

I twisted my right lower back this evening while doing the half seated twist. Woo... I felt the pain & immediately I discontinued from the pose. Then I countered it with the double knee twist so that it can gently massage my lower back against the floor. After doing for a few times, I felt so much better. Ah ha........ I managed to continue the rest of the yoga session!

Weakling!

Jul 22, 2007

I fall sick today. Since last night, I keep on sneezing. Then I could feel that my body aching this morning. After coming back from breakfast, I had a mild fever. It subcided later in the afternoon after I took a nap. However, I'm still weak now as my eyes are a bit painful. Migraine is going to attack me again. Hate it! :-(
Anyway, it is better to fall sick now rather than I had it during my Bangkok trip.

Without Suzana, What Would Her Life Be?

Jul 21, 2007

She is so lonely today because Suzana is not around. Pitiful gal!

Yucky Water!

I don't like to drink water because it tastes so plain. Sometimes I have no choice but to consume more water than my normal intake. Ah ha... that's the time I know I'm either falling sick or getting sore throat soon. Very bad example huh.
In 2004, the Institute of Medicine effectively overruled the 8 glasses a day rule - with a new report. They stated a general daily recommendation of 2.7 liters (91 ounces) of total water for women and 3.7 liters (125 ounces) for men. This includes water from all sources (foods and drinks). Wow... that is even worst right? 8 glasses is killing me already & it is 3.7 liters now!
Metabolism & fat? Any link with it? Recently, my beautician had a body scan for me. My metabolism rate is low & my total fat is 5% more than it should be. I consulted my doctor with regards to this. He explained to me that another of the liver's duties is to pick up the slack for the kidneys, which need plenty of water to work properly. If the kidneys are water-deprived, the liver has to do their work along with its own which then lowering its total productivity. Eventually it can't metabolize fat as quickly or efficiently as it could when the kidneys were pulling their own weight. So if this happened, we are not only being unfair to our liver, but we're also setting ourselves up to store fat.
Looks like I have to drink more water now. Besides the taste, the most intolerable part is running to the bathroom constantly. This can be very discouraging. It seems that the water is coming out just as fast as it's going in, and I will give up easily.
I collected some info from the web that what is really happening is that our body is flushing itself of the water it has been storing throughout all those years of "survival mode". As we continue to give our body all the water it could ask for, it gets rid of what it doesn't need, such as the water it was holding onto in our ankles, hips & thighs, maybe even around the belly. We are excreting much more than we realize. So, our body triggers that it doesn't need to save these stores anymore. It trusts that the water will keep coming & if it does, eventually, the flushing (of both the body & the potty) will cease. It then allows us to return to a normal life. This is called the "breakthrough point."
I can feel the beauty of water now.....

Rainbows

Jul 19, 2007

While driving back from Yoga Class this evening, I spotted this beautiful rainbows. So I immediately took out my phone to snap down this precious moment.

The Queen of Tropical Fruit

I bought some mangosteens from market this evening. Someone had said that the number of those lobes corresponds exactly to the number of fruit segments arranged inside. So out of my curiousity, I bought & then open five or six mangosteens to confirm this myth & of course it was right.
Believe it or not? Give a try before the season is off!

The 7-Year Itch

Jul 16, 2007

After years of opposition, Starbucks finally closed its door in the Forbidden City, Beijing on 14-July-2007.

The Starbucks branch was told it could stay open if it sold other brands but has declined. It simply because it is not Starbucks's custom worldwide to have stores that have any other name.

Folks, should Starbucks move out of the Forbidden City because it unmatched with the Chinese culture? Should it stay as it shows that China is connected with the outside world; People from all over the world can take a break and have a coffee here? Is this decision an amicable one or the museum management is aiming at Starbucks?

Well to me, this is really not a question of right or wrong now; if the people in Beijing like it this way, so be it. It is their heritage after all, as for us tourist, well, one cup of coffee less will not hurt. Forbidden City is just as grand, with, or without the latte.

What is Capsule Made From?

Jul 14, 2007

Do you ever questioned what is the compound used to make the capsule? Well, I have been in pharmaceutical industry for 4 years & I never ask. Er... Either I'm too blunt or I'm too smart till I asummed that I knew it.

Recently, our team has been assigned to handle HIV drug. Then I came to know that this V drug capsule was made from porcine (pork gelatin haram), which it is unacceptable to most Muslim consumers. According to most of the pharmacist, many Muslim consumers prefer tablets rather than gelatin capsules.

Gelatin has long been the substance that capsules are made from. The main source of gelatin is collagen, which is found in the skin and bones of animals. Most of the softgel capsules on the market are made from an animal source; bovine (from beef/cows), porcine (pork/pigs) & ovine (lamb/sheep). For the Indian market, in which Hindus shun bovine products & Muslims shun porcine products, non-gelatin capsules are a natural fit. That is why more recently, vegetable-based capsules have become a preferred form.

As Bovine are derived from cows, so it carries the risk of “mad cow disease”, a degenerative disease affecting the central nervous system (brain and spine) of cattle. While for the vegetable-based capsules, it can be manufactured at much higher temperatures than their animal-based counterparts, & accept a much wider pH range than the 2 to 7 pH range commonly used. However, the challenge with this vegetable-based capsules is that they tend to stick together as they are made, and may lack the luster of other capsules.
So, Muslims take bovine, Hindus take porcine, vegetarians take vegetable-based capsules & the rest who are not fall into this 3 categories, may consume any one of it. But a question to pounder. If you are seriously ill & it left the only choice, what would be your choice of medication then? ;-)

Cellulite

Jul 13, 2007

I have noticed that my cellulite is getting worst nowadays. It looks lumpy. This irregular fat deposits was found around my hips, buttocks & upper leg areas. Sometimes they described it as 'orange peel skin'.

I read from the web & knew that nearly all women (fat and even thin) will develop cellulite, even those who exercise. Cellulite often forms in postnatal women & those who take oral contraceptives, which increase the body's oestrogen, cause fat cells to enlarge, leading to water retention. Retaining water inhibits the body from flushing the system of toxins, leading to the formation of cellulite. Shit! I'm encountering 2nd side effects from OC again!

So when I went for my facial appointment this morning, I checked with Mary on the treatment offers for treating cellulite. She recommended Slimate therapy to me. With the birthday voucher I have, I tried it for RM 69 only.

See the above 2 pictures. This is the machine that they have used in fighting with my cellulite! It is called Starvac Vacuum Massage Cellulite Removal. It works as it creates a partial vacuum on the skin surface & sucks up the skin between two mobile rollers located inside a suction cap. The spacing between the Vacuum Massage Cellulite Removal rollers adapts to the fold of the skin. While the Vacuum Massage Cellulite Removal suction cap moves, the skin fold is rolled & massaged, giving the unique "massage-roller- suction" action. Two spreading edges, located front and back of the rollers, increase the lymphatic draining effect, while the two additional rollers at each end of the working surface make it easy to move the suction cap.

So hope this machine can help to tone up my skin, my lymphatic & blood circulation, assists in body contouring, eliminate toxins & relaxes & rejuvenates.

I'll keep you all posted with my latest progress, ya. Wish me good luck. Hehe.....

After 6 Months.....

Jul 9, 2007

As keeping my promise, I paid Dr. Vishnu a visit this afternoon. I told him the problems that I faced currently. He advised me to stop the pill for a month. If I still experience unstable emotion during this 1-month, then the problem might not due to Yasmin but other factors. I will listen to his advice to stop my therapy but I might want to start it after 2 weeks later. Besides, he also did a ultrasound for me. Thank God! Everything is in good condition. The most wonderful thing is he did not charge me for this visit. What a kind doctor I have ever seen. Thank you for your kindness, Dr. Vishnu.

Fried Durian

I have been thinking for quite some times if I could fried durian like we fried cempedak. So I bought 2 durians today to try out this recipe. Look at the pic. It looks tasty right? Ya, it tastes good but not as good as cempedak. So I think that original is still the best. Haha.... Guess BB will be laughing at me for not listening to him. Aiya... at least I tried & I know the outcome ma....

The New Seven Wonders of the World

The result for the new seven wonders of the world has announced during the Official Declaration ceremony in Lisbon, Portugal on Saturday, July 7, 2007 - 07.07.07. The New Seven Wonders of the World So did the seven wonders you vote were elected?

  2. Christ Redeemer, Brazil
  3. The Great Wall, China
  4. Machu Picchu, Peru
  5. Petra, Jordan
  6. The Roman Colloseum, Italy
  7. The Taj Mahal, India
I voted Rome's Colosseum, China's Great Wall, Chile's Easter Island Statues, Mexico's Chichén Itzá, Greece's Acropolis, India's Taj Mahal & Cambodia's Angkor. So I only have 4 listed. Anyway, I'm glad that I have participated in this event with the rest of the people in the world.

RM 5 Only!

I love aromatherapy. I always wanted to buy this essential oil candle diffuser from The Body Shop. However, I always fail to do so because it is so pricey (about RM 50).

Then I came accross this candle diffuser from the RM 5 shop at Dataran Pahlawan. Woo... without any single thought, I bought it & a bottle of lavender fragrance oil. It is so cheap. I tried it & the fragrance oil doesn't smell great. Don't worry. I will get one later from The Body Shop. :p

But the candle diffuser is definitely a good buy.

My Favorite Wine

Jul 7, 2007

When the first time I had this wine, I fall in love with him. He is smooth with lasting finish. I like the rich plum, blackberry & spicy fruit aromas. Ever since then, BB has always replenish the stock whenever it has finished.

Vitagen

Hey do you spot the difference between this 2 bottles of Vitagen? Come on... 1, 2, 3! Still can't get it? The 2nd one is with the less sugar content! According to the label, it is 25% lesser than the original one.

I bought it from JJ today & have tasted it just now. Hmm... it is really taste less sweeter than the normal one. Well, I think it is a great alternative for those who are health conscious and are concerned about their sugar intake. Mum will definitely like it.

Which is the Most Irritating Song to You?

A professional market research company, One Poll has conducted a online survey on Top 10 Irritating Song of All Time. Wanna make a guess what are the songs in the list?

1. "You’re Beautiful" - James Blunt
2. "Axel F" - Crazy Frog
3. "MMMBop" - Hanson
4. "Mr. Blobby" - Mr. Blobby
5. "Birdie Song" - The Tweets
6. "Shout" - Lulu
7. "Agadoo" - Black Lace
8. "Grace Kelly" - Mika
9. "My Heart Will Go On" - Celine Dion
10. "Macarena" - Los Del Rio

Well, I personally quite like this song. I would think that the poll reflects a category error. You're Beautiful is a fine song. It just got played too much, I guess. For me, "Most irritating" should apply right at first listen.

Btw, I can't believe that Who Let The Dogs Out? by the Baha Men didn't make this list. :p

She is the Culprit!

Jul 6, 2007

I felt much better after an extensive kickboxing I had last evening plus the cool chill-out with friends in Pure Bar. Though I have hangover this morning, but at least I have managed to release it out.
Spoken to Joe this morning & explained to her the reason that I didn't answer her call last afternoon. She shared with me that she faced the same problem too after being with this culprit for 6 months. Her mood swung often & she suffered from depression sometimes. She knew that "she" was the one that cause this problem. So she decided to break up with her in May this year. She is leading a much happier life now.
With her experience & Ee Ting's explanation, I firmly acknowledged that I was one of the victim too! Don't worry. I'm fine but I will go to confront her this Monday!
Curious to know who is the culprit that causing our life miserable?? The birth control pills!
Mine - Yasmin
Joe - Dianne 35
In conclusion, all oral contraceptive pills are the culprit. Haha.... Just pulling your legs. It is actually very subjective. You might be sensitive to her but not to the other one! Sorry to Yasmin! Sorry to Dianne 35! Sorry to all OC pills!

Emotional Control

Jul 5, 2007

I'm becoming very emotional lately. I'm suspecting it was due to the effects of Yasmin. I started taking Yasmin in January of this year after surgery for endometrious. I've been an insecure depressed mess since past 3 weeks & was blaming it on the relationship until I realized that I'm not happy with any part of my life. I definitely feel like it's a chemical depression. I'm afraid it will affect my relationship with BB & my family members who has been trying to put up with me patiently. I have always been an optimistic person. Is Yasmin changing that? I guess I will need to visit my OB/GYN for further consultation as I do not & will not wanna be a slave for emotional control.

Worklife Balance

Ever think of how to release your stress? Sports, yoga, meditation, music, blogging, eating, shopping, or talking to friends? Which one is your choice?

Just came accross a piece of news from Astro News just now. A Spanish chain hotel in Madrid is planning for renovation. Prior than that, they have offered "30 highly stressed-out people" to have a chance to use the hammers, axes to vent their frustrations on tv sets, bedroom walls, beds & desks.

I think it is a fantastic idea to do so. It benefited both parties. The release of pain-relieving endorphins helped those people to feel much better & the hotel also saved the cost of hiring professionals to do the demolishing job.

So if you were given a chance to do so, would you wanna try? Smash it out! Please contact this website for further information! The choice is yours but I guess I would not do so. Too violent. Haha...

Book Surfing

Jul 3, 2007

I went for book shopping at Popular during lunch hour. I was thinking to buy few self-enrichment books to read. While looking at the best buy item, I saw this book - The New Natural Family Doctor by Dr. Andrew Stanway. He provides valuable information on how to adapt our lifestyle through diet, exercise & relaxation tecniques in order to maintain good health without unnecessary medical intervention. This book contains a number of pictures. So I guess it will not bore me as I'm not really a good reader. Haha...
Then I also came accross these 2 chinese books. The author is from Taiwan & I love reading his articles. He usually gives short stories in each of the chapter & he will then concluded with piece of advice. So, the one in green is titled as "Everything can be better", meaning we must have a positive mind in handling all the problems we face daily.
While the red cover one is titled as "Don't hurt your family." He shared that when we are upset, we should not throw our temper or doing anything that hurt our love one. We should appreciate the times we share together with them. Besides, we must also learn to forgive & forget. Well, I think that I'm not doing good enough in this. I'm still learning & I really hope that one day I can be liked what is being told in this book (have read few chapters already)!
Till I share with you further once I finished reading the book.....

Is he having a sweet dream?

Jul 2, 2007

See this Kai Jun boy. He must be having the sweetest dream out there huh. I'm guessing what is in his dream.

Hmmm.. "Papa & Mama brought me to Tesco. I'm having fun driving the toy car. Then we had our McDonald's ice cream. Umhh.... so nice!"

Hey lazy bone, it's time to wake up. You have music class this evening. Else, you will be late.

He is very clever today. Finally he called his grandma. "Ah Ma! Ah Ma!" He shouted so loud. Clap! Clap! Clap!

Will It Grow?

I'm not a mecerdes lover but I fall in love with this young boy very much. He has actually set his alarm and gets out of bed early to do some gardening. After getting ready, he goes outside and digs a large hole. Then he buries his toy Mercedes CLK, covers it up and waters it. At the same time, he looks over his parents Mercedes CLK in anticipation.

Hope his dreams will come true one fine day.

Don McLean - Vincent (Starry, Starry Night)

Jul 1, 2007

Starry, starry night.
Paint your palette blue and grey,
Look out on a summer's day,
With eyes that know the darkness in my soul.
Shadows on the hills,
Sketch the trees and the daffodils,
Catch the breeze and the winter chills,
In colors on the snowy linen land.

Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they'll listen now.

Starry, starry night.
Flaming flowers that brightly blaze,
Swirling clouds in violet haze,
Reflect in Vincent's eyes of china blue.
Colors changing hue, morning field of amber grain,
Weathered faces lined in pain,
Are soothed beneath the artist's loving hand.

Now I understand what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they did not know how.
Perhaps they'll listen now.

For they could not love you,
But still your love was true.
And when no hope was left in sight
On that starry, starry night,
You took your life, as lovers often do.
But I could have told you, Vincent,
This world was never meant for one
As beautiful as you.

Starry, starry night.
Portraits hung in empty halls,
Frameless head on nameless walls,
With eyes that watch the world and can't forget.
Like the strangers that you've met,
The ragged men in the ragged clothes,
The silver thorn of bloody rose,
Lie crushed and broken on the virgin snow.

Now I think I know what you tried to say to me,
How you suffered for your sanity,
How you tried to set them free.
They would not listen, they're not listening still.
Perhaps they never will...

I know this song long time ago. But I fall in love with it after following the HK series - Heart of Greed. It was mostly played during Alfred & 常在心 shot.

So I downloaded it from Yuotube. I was curious with the video clip as I see many nice paintings. Till I found out the meaning of the song from the net, then I started to realise how beautiful this song is. It captures the artist, Vincent Van Gogh's painting in the music.

McLean is trying to talk about how Van Gogh really seemed to have a message in everything and tried to make other people see the world as more beautiful and deep, to see the joy and beauty in everyday things. Van Gogh did that in his amazing paintings of everything from flowers to portraits. It's so sad that such an amazing artist, and such a strong person, killed himself, but he had fought with mental illness for so long. Don Mclean really portrays this well in this song and tries to tell people how hard he struggled in life.

This site actually tells us why Van Gogh produced the Starry Night's painting:

House of Dogs

This is Kylie. The eldest in the family. She is from the Labrador's family. She is always by herself & very easy going. Don't bother what is happening around her.

This is Dino. The 2nd in the family. He is a very playful German Shepard. When he is alone at night, he would be destroying most of the household items.

This is Flame. She is the youngest in the family. She is from the Cocker Spaniel's family. She is a very lady dog. She don't like attention from us. She will just walked off if she doesn't wanna see you, even though you keep calling her.
